Core is still in it's infancy so it's very much a work in progress. This roadmap notes any planned changes to the application and also notes any unresolved issues.
Core renders markdown through pandoc with the --from=markdown-implicit_figures argument. Pandoc renders markdown in a pretty standard way. In general core just lets pandoc handle the conversion, but there are a couple of things that you should be aware of.

core is a simple, markdown based blogging framework. To use core, simply create a new subdirectory in your core folder. I usually call it raw, but you can give it any name you like as long as the input_directory is updated in config.py to point to the new folder instead of default.
